Joe Piazza

Chairman & Founder

Joe is the Chairman and CEO of Robertson Stephens LLC, the parent company of Robertson Stephens Advisors, Robertson Stephens Securities and Robertson Stephens Asset Management. With the founding of our new firm, Joe is re-creating the culture of the investment boutiques that were so prominent and successful in our industry for so many years. Robertson Stephens is a dynamic private partnership that combines intellectual capital and decades of experience through many market and economic cycles with a highly focused dedication to client service.

At the original Robertson Stephens, Joe founded its wealth management group, the Financial Services Division (FSD), which grew to 100 advisors, 220 total employees and $40 billion in AUM.

Joe has over 40 years of industry experience in research, capital markets and asset management. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, he started the Private Asset Management Group (PAM) at ING/Furman Selz, and previous to PAM, Joe founded and managed the Private Client Group at Montgomery Securities.

Before turning his focus to asset management, beginning in 1970, Joe spent 20 years as a senior executive in research and capital markets. During that period, he was the head of the Equity Division of Dillon Read and served on their Board of Directors. Prior to joining Dillon Read, he led the equity institutional sales group at Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette (DLJ) and served on their Board of Directors. Before joining Dillon, Joe was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs.

Robin Nakao

COO & CFO

As COO and CFO, Robin is focused on building and scaling operations, managing business development and onboarding, and oversees compliance, finance, human resources, and administration. Robin is on the Board of Robertson Stephens LLC and also serves as its COO and CFO.

Robin has 30 years of financial and management experience, primarily in the financial services industry. She was part of the original management team of the Robertson Stephens Financial Services Division, serving as the Chief Financial and Operating Officer. Robin was also a member of the team that created the Private Asset Management Group at ING/Furman Selz.

Prior to re-establishing Robertson Stephens Advisors, Robin was the Executive Director of the Trust for Conservation Innovation, a leading environmental fiscal sponsor. Before holding executive positions in wealth management, Robin held senior positions with Charles Schwab and Davis Skaggs and began her career at Deloitte.

Ren Riley

President
Robertson Stephens Asset Management

Ren is a Managing Director of Robertson Stephens Advisors LLC, a member of the Executive Committee, and President of Robertson Stephens Asset Management.

Leveraging his multi-stage and global principal investment experience, Ren leads the firm’s alternative assets effort that includes a Robertson Stephens-branded venture capital fund, a series of co-branded private equity funds, selective pooled asset vehicles and a private share secondary platform. Access to the alternative asset class, across a number of products and services, represents a significant differentiator for Robertson’s core wealth management platform.

Ren has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Ren spent 16 years at Oak Investment Partners, where he became a General Partner in 2006. His primary focus was in the Internet, mobile, and enterprise software and services sectors. Ren led or co-led investments in Centric Software, Gazillion Entertainment, Hipmunk, Lianlian Pay, Moxie, Photobucket, SmartDrive and Yoyi Media. Previous investments included Sutherland Global Services (Oak’s stake acquired by TPG Capital), Digital Media Group (acquired by VisionChina), iCrossing (acquired by Hearst), and Parlano (acquired by Microsoft). Ren remains a Venture Partner at Oak.

Prior to joining Oak, Ren was a Senior Associate with the original Robertson Stephens, a technology-focused investment bank. He worked in the corporate finance division and executed several public and private equity offerings as well as M & A transactions in the Internet, technology, business and information services sectors.

Ron Resnick

COO
Robertson Stephens Asset Management

Ron is Chief Operating Officer of Robertson Stephens Asset Management and a member of the Executive Committee. He is responsible for the oversight of administration, operations and legal activities for the firm’s alternative assets platform.

Ron co-founded CounselWorks LLC, a consulting company providing business strategy and regulatory advice to hedge funds, PE firms, investment advisers and broker-dealers. Prior to starting CounselWorks he was a Managing Partner and the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Highbridge Capital Management, where he launched over twenty hedge funds and was instrumental in building Highbridge into a $16 billion private global alternative before negotiating its sale to JP Morgan Asset Management Holdings for $1.4 billion.

Previously, Ron co-founded Harmonic Fund Services, an offshore hedge fund administration company, and was a Partner at Corbin Capital Partners, a fund of hedge funds business.

He has authored numerous articles for The New York Times and has been a guest lecturer on hedge fund strategies, options trading and the 2008 financial crisis at the Economics Department at University of California - Los Angeles.

Steve Florance, CFA

Director of Investment Resource Group

Steve heads the Investment Resource Group and manages the development of the firm’s investment platform, primarily manager due diligence and capital markets research. He has over a decade of experience in all aspects of investing, due diligence and portfolio management with an emphasis in structuring and analyzing investments in real assets, private equity and hedge funds. Steve is responsible for investment work in real assets and also makes contributions across all asset classes in his leadership role.

Preston DuFauchard,
Esq.

General Counsel

Preston leads the firm’s global legal affairs and compliance operations.

Preston was the California Corporations Commissioner from 2006 until 2011. There he led a 300-person agency charged with regulation and enforcement of state securities laws, franchise investment laws and lending laws for non-depository institutions. As Commissioner, Preston coordinated with other states in regulatory examinations and enforcement actions and also worked with FINRA, the SEC and the CFPB.

Prior to his role as Commissioner, Mr. DuFauchard was in-house counsel for Bank of America, N.A. from 1997-2006 in the Litigation Department advising on securities matters, including merger litigation, underwriter litigation, prime broker operations, loan syndications and the Bank’s venture capital operations. He began his career and became a partner with the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP, where he was a trial attorney in large civil cases.

He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust (NYSE : PMT) and volunteers on the Board of Directors for the West Oakland Health Council.

Dan Barth

Operations Manager

Dan is the operational liaison supporting the direct investments group. He and his team are continuing the Robertson Stephens legacy of connecting investors to great growth companies.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Dan was an Associate at ROTH Capital Partners in their Venture Group where he supported the group’s operations. He began his career as a financial analyst at Aon Hewitt.

Vincent P. Conrad

Managing Director

Vince's focus is orchestrating liquidity solutions for private and public high growth companies at various stages of their business development. In addition, he will be raising institutional money for alternative funds on the Robertson Stephens Platform.

Through his 20-plus years of capital markets experience, Vince has built multiple platforms serving both public and private issuers as well as financial sponsors. He has successfully linked senior management teams to suitable institutional investors across various industries. Key industries include: SaaS, Data Center Infrastructure, Mobile Apps, Internet Security, Consumer Internet, Healthcare IT and Traditional/Alternative Energy.

Vince has sales experience working with both bulge bracket and middle market institutional investment banks. He was previously Director of Corporate Access for BTIG LLC and JonesTrading Institutional Services LLC, as well as Director of Institutional Markets for Credit Suisse First Boston serving institutional clients across North America, Europe and South Africa.

Early in his career, Vince led the Corporate Services Desk providing distribution and liquidity block services at Furman Selz. He also held senior institutional sales roles with Montgomery Securities and Needham Securities.

Amy DeTolla

Amy is responsible for new client and advisor implementation, portfolio management solutions, client reporting and client facing technology. She was part of the original management team of the Robertson Stephens Financial Services Division and helped build the infrastructure to support sales and service.

Amy has over 20 years of experience in financial services. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, she was a Director at Blackrock, where she was responsible for onboarding all new products onto the Blackrock platform. Before joining Blackrock, Amy was the founder of Back Office Solutions, a consulting firm providing process solutions to improve client experience at investment management firms.

Previously, Amy was a Software Implementation Manager at Advent Software, a provider of portfolio management systems. She started her career at Fidelity Investments, where she was the Operations Manager of the San Francisco Branch.

Jeanette Garretty

Managing Director

Jeanette has been working with ultra high net worth individuals and their families, senior executives and companies for more than 25 years. Together with Danny Rozansky and Michael Zaninovich, she advises Robertson Stephens' clients in Palo Alto and San Francisco on a wide range of wealth management issues ranging from investment performance to cash flow forecasting and estate planning. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Jeanette was Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor for Wells Fargo Private Bank in Palo Alto, where she specialized in addressing the needs of entrepreneurial wealth being created in Silicon Valley.

Jeanette started her career in the financial services industry at Bank of America as Head of Industry Analysis and Chief Domestic Economist and she continues to speak nationally on economic conditions, fiscal and monetary policies and financial strategies. In 2012, for the fifth year in a row, Jeanette was named to the Barron's list of Top 100 Investment Advisors in California (#17) and one of the top five Barron's Women Investment Advisors in the country. She is an active member of several philanthropic organizations and sits on the Investment Committee of the Northern Arizona University Foundation.

Ron Guidi

Ron is responsible for managing the relationships with our operating partners and delivering a comprehensive service platform to our advisors and clients. As the Chief Compliance Officer, he ensures that Robertson Stephens’s business is conducted within regulatory guidelines.

Ron has 20 years of operations and compliance experience in the financial services industry, including 7 years at the original Robertson Stephens where he opened and managed the Financial Services Division in Boston and held a variety of management positions, including Corporate Services, Middle Office Operations and Sales Supervision.

Prior to joining the new Robertson Stephens, Ron was a Director and Branch Administrative Manager of Deutsche Bank's Private Wealth Management Group where he managed and supervised Operations and Compliance for both the broker-dealer and investment advisory businesses. Before Deutsche Bank, Ron was a Senior Business Consultant at SunGard Securities. He started his career with Bank of America as an auditor in the Retail Banking division.

Melissa Gutwald

Accounting Manager

Melissa oversees the daily operations of the accounting department. She began her career as a certified public accountant specializing in reviews, compilations and taxation for middle market businesses for a boutique firm in Michigan and later became an Accounting Information Systems Consultant in their CIS department. In her post-CPA career, Melissa has held various accounting roles for a variety of businesses including green technology, high volume retail and investment real estate.

James P. Kozak

Managing Director

Jim co-heads the direct investments group. Continuing Robertson Stephens' legacy of connecting investors to great growth companies, his focus is on developing direct investment opportunities in top tier venture-backed companies emerging out of Silicon Valley. Through their unique approach these opportunities are now available to HNW and Family Office investors in a way they have not been before.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Jim was a Managing Director at ROTH Capital Partners where he ran the capital markets and fundraising efforts for companies such as Revel Systems, Smule, Sun Basket, LiquidSpace, Soasta, Allegiance, Gazillion, SellPoints and TaskRabbit.

Prior to ROTH Capital, Jim was a Senior Managing Director at Advanced Equities and headed up the Chicago office raising capital for private technology companies backed by some of the leading venture capital firms such as Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, New Enterprise Associates, Benchmark Capital and Sequoia Capital. Raymond has worked in financial services for the past 9 years and brings a wealth of experience in client services, operations and financial modeling. He holds a MS in Financial Analysis from University of San Francisco and a BA from University of Nebraska in Real Estate Investment and Land Economics. Rich has over 20 years of investment experience with a focus on high net worth, endowment oriented investments. Before joining Robertson Stephens, Rich spent more than a decade with Zions Bancorporation as a leader of manager due diligence and portfolio management. He was an investment committee member with primary responsibility for asset allocation and non-registered investments such as private equity, real estate, hedge funds and credit. Prior to Zions, Rich worked for GAM, a UK-based asset manager focused on non-traditional investments. He began his career with JP Morgan as an emerging markets equity and fixed income research analyst.

Continuing Robertson Stephens' legacy of supporting Silicon Valley’s innovators, Robert leads an experienced team to provide financing to shareholders of leading venture-backed companies secured only by their shares. The Robertson Stephens Liquidity Fund III is a tax-efficient solution for employees of growth-stage companies looking to exercise stock options or generate liquidity for personal use.

Robert is a pioneer in the private stock lending business having established the first private stock option lending fund over a decade ago. Over the years, Robert has consulted and advised numerous entrepreneurs and private stockholders on the benefits and trade-offs associated with stock option exercise loans and secondary stock sales.

As a founding partner of VSL Partners, Robert offered innovative financing solutions for private companies, their founders, employees and early investors. Prior to VSL, he was a Senior Director at BNY Mellon working with the entrepreneurial community and developing private debt and equity transactions.

Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2002, Danny was part of the myCFO team, Inc., an integrated wealth management and family office firm based in Redwood City. He came to myCFO from the San Francisco office of Arthur Andersen LLP, where he worked in the Family Wealth and Private Client Group.

Nicole has more than a decade of experience across the investment management industry. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Nicole was an Associate at ICONIQ Capital, a multi-family office, where she was responsible for asset allocation, liquidity and cash flow management, trust and estate matters and tax planning. Prior to ICONIQ, Nicole spent 10 years in the hedge fund industry at Watershed Asset Management, managing the investor relations and portfolio analytics functions as the primary point of contact for all investors, which included endowments, foundations, fund of funds, corporate pensions, family offices, insurance companies and high net worth individuals.

J. Michael Tierney, Jr.

Michael has over 30 years of experience in financial services and, specifically, family wealth management. He is a founding advisor in our San Francisco office and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee which oversees and provides asset allocation guidance for families, focusing on timely opportunities across the capital markets. He practices a holistic wealth management approach for his clients incorporating liability management, estate planning, tax optimization, and philanthropic strategies with special attention paid to risk and investment management.

Michael was an early adopter of the transparent, open architecture business model for family wealth management practices. He built businesses at Salomon Brothers and Montgomery Securities before leaving the traditional Wall Street environment and moving to an independent boutique on the West Coast. Before joining Robertson Stephens, Michael spent 8 years as a Managing Director and senior member of The Presidio Group’s wealth advisory business.

She is a communications and brand strategist with over 20 years of experience advising business leaders, start-ups and Fortune 500 companies on how to execute effective business growth and lead customer-focused enterprises.

Alyssa has worked in public relations for several Omnicom agencies and has created high-visibility web initiatives for consumer and technology brands including Google, Genentech, Intel, MTV, Safeway and Wells Fargo.

Jenny Williams

Previously, Jenny worked on the institutional trading, sales and convertible bond desks at Merrill Lynch, J.P. Morgan, and Goldman Sachs and most recently as a Customer Success Manager at a financial technology startup.

After working in finance, Jenny taught middle school as a licensed Reading Specialist helping students with learning differences.

Alice Wu

Alice provides investment advice to wealthy families in the United States and abroad with complex cross-border needs. As President of our Asia region, Alice spearheads our initiative to offer Asian investors an entrée into investment opportunities in top tier venture-backed companies emerging out of the US.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Alice was a Vice President with Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC advising wealthy Chinese individuals and families in the U.S. as well as providing institutional-level customized financial solutions to her clients in Asia. Before Credit Suisse, Ms. Wu was with Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management in San Francisco.

In addition to her career in financial services, Alice was an Associate Director at The Asia Foundation advising trustees and donors on their philanthropic activities in Asia. Before receiving her MBA degree, Alice had a career in public health working at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she conducted bio-statistical analyses and co-authored research articles in medical journals.

Michael Zaninovich

Michael has over 25 years of experience managing institutional and individual portfolios. His perspective and work experience is global, with a focus on risk-adjusted and tax-efficient returns. Together with Jeanette Garretty and Danny Rozansky, Michael advises Robertson Stephens' clients in the US and Europe on capital markets, multi-asset class portfolios and manager due diligence.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Michael was a Senior Vice President and Senior Investment Strategist at Wells Fargo Private Bank where he managed some of the largest relationships in the Wells Fargo Wealth Management Group and was a regular speaker and panelist at Private Bank investment events. Prior to Wells Fargo, Michael was a partner in two long/short hedge funds and a consultant to a global macro hedge fund.

Michael holds a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University where he was a Columbia Corporate Fellow and holds a BA from Cornell University. Michael is fluent in Japanese and Italian. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.

Ron Florance is a Senior Strategic Advisor and a member of the Board of Advisors. In this role, Ron advises on comprehensive strategic asset allocation, investment strategy and investment solutions. He is responsible for communicating the firm’s global investment strategy at conferences, academic lectures and continuing education programs.

Ron has over 30 years of experience in the investment management industry. His expertise includes global asset allocation, equity research, fixed income research and portfolio design and management. He recently retired as Deputy Chief Investment Officer at Wells Fargo Private Bank. His prior corporate experience included roles at The Vanguard Group, Wells Fargo Nikko Investment Advisors and The Private Bank at Bank of America.

He holds a BA in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Brown University and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Dan Barth

Operations Manager

Joe Piazza

Chairman & Founder

Joe is the Chairman and CEO of Robertson Stephens LLC, the parent company of Robertson Stephens Advisors, Robertson Stephens Securities and Robertson Stephens Asset Management. With the founding of our new firm, Joe is re-creating the culture of the investment boutiques that were so prominent and successful in our industry for so many years. Robertson Stephens is a dynamic private partnership that combines intellectual capital and decades of experience through many market and economic cycles with a highly focused dedication to client service.

At the original Robertson Stephens, Joe founded its wealth management group, the Financial Services Division (FSD), which grew to 100 advisors, 220 total employees and $40 billion in AUM.

Joe has over 40 years of industry experience in research, capital markets and asset management. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, he started the Private Asset Management Group (PAM) at ING/Furman Selz, and previous to PAM, Joe founded and managed the Private Client Group at Montgomery Securities.

Before turning his focus to asset management, beginning in 1970, Joe spent 20 years as a senior executive in research and capital markets. During that period, he was the head of the Equity Division of Dillon Read and served on their Board of Directors. Prior to joining Dillon Read, he led the equity institutional sales group at Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette (DLJ) and served on their Board of Directors. Before joining Dillon, Joe was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs.

Robin Nakao

COO & CFO

As COO and CFO, Robin is focused on building and scaling operations, managing business development and onboarding, and oversees compliance, finance, human resources, and administration. Robin is on the Board of Robertson Stephens LLC and also serves as its COO and CFO.

Robin has 30 years of financial and management experience, primarily in the financial services industry. She was part of the original management team of the Robertson Stephens Financial Services Division, serving as the Chief Financial and Operating Officer. Robin was also a member of the team that created the Private Asset Management Group at ING/Furman Selz.

Prior to re-establishing Robertson Stephens Advisors, Robin was the Executive Director of the Trust for Conservation Innovation, a leading environmental fiscal sponsor. Before holding executive positions in wealth management, Robin held senior positions with Charles Schwab and Davis Skaggs and began her career at Deloitte.

Ren Riley

President
Robertson Stephens Asset Management

Ren is a Managing Director of Robertson Stephens Advisors LLC, a member of the Executive Committee, and President of Robertson Stephens Asset Management.

Leveraging his multi-stage and global principal investment experience, Ren leads the firm’s alternative assets effort that includes a Robertson Stephens-branded venture capital fund, a series of co-branded private equity funds, selective pooled asset vehicles and a private share secondary platform. Access to the alternative asset class, across a number of products and services, represents a significant differentiator for Robertson’s core wealth management platform.

Ren has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Ren spent 16 years at Oak Investment Partners, where he became a General Partner in 2006. His primary focus was in the Internet, mobile, and enterprise software and services sectors. Ren led or co-led investments in Centric Software, Gazillion Entertainment, Hipmunk, Lianlian Pay, Moxie, Photobucket, SmartDrive and Yoyi Media. Previous investments included Sutherland Global Services (Oak’s stake acquired by TPG Capital), Digital Media Group (acquired by VisionChina), iCrossing (acquired by Hearst), and Parlano (acquired by Microsoft). Ren remains a Venture Partner at Oak.

Prior to joining Oak, Ren was a Senior Associate with the original Robertson Stephens, a technology-focused investment bank. He worked in the corporate finance division and executed several public and private equity offerings as well as M & A transactions in the Internet, technology, business and information services sectors.

Ron Resnick

COO

Ron is Chief Operating Officer of Robertson Stephens Asset Management and a member of the Executive Committee. He is responsible for the oversight of administration, operations and legal activities for the firm’s alternative assets platform.

Ron co-founded CounselWorks LLC, a consulting company providing business strategy and regulatory advice to hedge funds, PE firms, investment advisers and broker-dealers. Prior to starting CounselWorks he was a Managing Partner and the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of Highbridge Capital Management, where he launched over twenty hedge funds and was instrumental in building Highbridge into a $16 billion private global alternative before negotiating its sale to JP Morgan Asset Management Holdings for $1.4 billion.

Previously, Ron co-founded Harmonic Fund Services, an offshore hedge fund administration company, and was a Partner at Corbin Capital Partners, a fund of hedge funds business.

He has authored numerous articles for The New York Times and has been a guest lecturer on hedge fund strategies, options trading and the 2008 financial crisis at the Economics Department at University of California - Los Angeles.

Steve Florance, CFA

Director of Investment Resource Group

Steve heads the Investment Resource Group and manages the development of the firm’s investment platform, primarily manager due diligence and capital markets research. He has over a decade of experience in all aspects of investing, due diligence and portfolio management with an emphasis in structuring and analyzing investments in real assets, private equity and hedge funds. Steve is responsible for investment work in real assets and also makes contributions across all asset classes in his leadership role.

Preston DuFauchard,
Esq.

General Counsel

Preston leads the firm’s global legal affairs and compliance operations.

Preston was the California Corporations Commissioner from 2006 until 2011. There he led a 300-person agency charged with regulation and enforcement of state securities laws, franchise investment laws and lending laws for non-depository institutions. As Commissioner, Preston coordinated with other states in regulatory examinations and enforcement actions and also worked with FINRA, the SEC and the CFPB.

Prior to his role as Commissioner, Mr. DuFauchard was in-house counsel for Bank of America, N.A. from 1997-2006 in the Litigation Department advising on securities matters, including merger litigation, underwriter litigation, prime broker operations, loan syndications and the Bank’s venture capital operations. He began his career and became a partner with the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP, where he was a trial attorney in large civil cases.

He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust (NYSE : PMT) and volunteers on the Board of Directors for the West Oakland Health Council.

Vincent P. Conrad

Managing Director

Vince's focus is orchestrating liquidity solutions for private and public high growth companies at various stages of their business development. In addition, he will be raising institutional money for alternative funds on the Robertson Stephens Platform.

Through his 20-plus years of capital markets experience, Vince has built multiple platforms serving both public and private issuers as well as financial sponsors. He has successfully linked senior management teams to suitable institutional investors across various industries. Key industries include: SaaS, Data Center Infrastructure, Mobile Apps, Internet Security, Consumer Internet, Healthcare IT and Traditional/Alternative Energy.

Vince has sales experience working with both bulge bracket and middle market institutional investment banks. He was previously Director of Corporate Access for BTIG LLC and JonesTrading Institutional Services LLC, as well as Director of Institutional Markets for Credit Suisse First Boston serving institutional clients across North America, Europe and South Africa.

Amy is responsible for new client and advisor implementation, portfolio management solutions, client reporting and client facing technology. She was part of the original management team of the Robertson Stephens Financial Services Division and helped build the infrastructure to support sales and service.

Amy has over 20 years of experience in financial services. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, she was a Director at Blackrock, where she was responsible for onboarding all new products onto the Blackrock platform. Before joining Blackrock, Amy was the founder of Back Office Solutions, a consulting firm providing process solutions to improve client experience at investment management firms.

Previously, Amy was a Software Implementation Manager at Advent Software, a provider of portfolio management systems. She started her career at Fidelity Investments, where she was the Operations Manager of the San Francisco Branch.

Jeanette Garretty

Jeanette has been working with ultra high net worth individuals and their families, senior executives and companies for more than 25 years. Together with Danny Rozansky and Michael Zaninovich, she advises Robertson Stephens' clients in Palo Alto and San Francisco on a wide range of wealth management issues ranging from investment performance to cash flow forecasting and estate planning. Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Jeanette was Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor for Wells Fargo Private Bank in Palo Alto, where she specialized in addressing the needs of entrepreneurial wealth being created in Silicon Valley.

Jeanette started her career in the financial services industry at Bank of America as Head of Industry Analysis and Chief Domestic Economist and she continues to speak nationally on economic conditions, fiscal and monetary policies and financial strategies. In 2012, for the fifth year in a row, Jeanette was named to the Barron's list of Top 100 Investment Advisors in California (#17) and one of the top five Barron's Women Investment Advisors in the country. She is an active member of several philanthropic organizations and sits on the Investment Committee of the Northern Arizona University Foundation.

Ron is responsible for managing the relationships with our operating partners and delivering a comprehensive service platform to our advisors and clients. As the Chief Compliance Officer, he ensures that Robertson Stephens’s business is conducted within regulatory guidelines.

Ron has 20 years of operations and compliance experience in the financial services industry, including 7 years at the original Robertson Stephens where he opened and managed the Financial Services Division in Boston and held a variety of management positions, including Corporate Services, Middle Office Operations and Sales Supervision.

Prior to joining the new Robertson Stephens, Ron was a Director and Branch Administrative Manager of Deutsche Bank's Private Wealth Management Group where he managed and supervised Operations and Compliance for both the broker-dealer and investment advisory businesses. Before Deutsche Bank, Ron was a Senior Business Consultant at SunGard Securities. He started his career with Bank of America as an auditor in the Retail Banking division.

Melissa Gutwald

Melissa oversees the daily operations of the accounting department. She began her career as a certified public accountant specializing in reviews, compilations and taxation for middle market businesses for a boutique firm in Michigan and later became an Accounting Information Systems Consultant in their CIS department. In her post-CPA career, Melissa has held various accounting roles for a variety of businesses including green technology, high volume retail and investment real estate.

James P. Kozak

Managing Director

Jim co-heads the direct investments group. Continuing Robertson Stephens' legacy of connecting investors to great growth companies, his focus is on developing direct investment opportunities in top tier venture-backed companies emerging out of Silicon Valley. Through their unique approach these opportunities are now available to HNW and Family Office investors in a way they have not been before.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Jim was a Managing Director at ROTH Capital Partners where he ran the capital markets and fundraising efforts for companies such as Revel Systems, Smule, Sun Basket, LiquidSpace, Soasta, Allegiance, Gazillion, SellPoints and TaskRabbit.

Prior to ROTH Capital, Jim was a Senior Managing Director at Advanced Equities and headed up the Chicago office raising capital for private technology companies backed by some of the leading venture capital firms such as Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, New Enterprise Associates, Benchmark Capital and Sequoia Capital. The Robertson Stephens Liquidity Fund III is a tax-efficient solution for employees of growth-stage companies looking to exercise stock options or generate liquidity for personal use.

Robert is a pioneer in the private stock lending business having established the first private stock option lending fund over a decade ago. Over the years, Robert has consulted and advised numerous entrepreneurs and private stockholders on the benefits and trade-offs associated with stock option exercise loans and secondary stock sales.

Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2002, Danny was part of the myCFO team, Inc., an integrated wealth management and family office firm based in Redwood City. He came to myCFO from the San Francisco office of Arthur Andersen LLP, where he worked in the Family Wealth and Private Client Group.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Nicole was an Associate at ICONIQ Capital, a multi-family office, where she was responsible for asset allocation, liquidity and cash flow management, trust and estate matters and tax planning. Prior to ICONIQ, Nicole spent 10 years in the hedge fund industry at Watershed Asset Management, managing the investor relations and portfolio analytics functions as the primary point of contact for all investors, which included endowments, foundations, fund of funds, corporate pensions, family offices, insurance companies and high net worth individuals.

J. Michael Tierney, Jr.

Michael has over 30 years of experience in financial services and, specifically, family wealth management. He is a founding advisor in our San Francisco office and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee which oversees and provides asset allocation guidance for families, focusing on timely opportunities across the capital markets. He practices a holistic wealth management approach for his clients incorporating liability management, estate planning, tax optimization, and philanthropic strategies with special attention paid to risk and investment management.

Michael was an early adopter of the transparent, open architecture business model for family wealth management practices. He built businesses at Salomon Brothers and Montgomery Securities before leaving the traditional Wall Street environment and moving to an independent boutique on the West Coast. Before joining Robertson Stephens, Michael spent 8 years as a Managing Director and senior member of The Presidio Group’s wealth advisory business.

Alyssa has worked in public relations for several Omnicom agencies and has created high-visibility web initiatives for consumer and technology brands including Google, Genentech, Intel, MTV, Safeway and Wells Fargo.

Alice provides investment advice to wealthy families in the United States and abroad with complex cross-border needs. As President of our Asia region, Alice spearheads our initiative to offer Asian investors an entrée into investment opportunities in top tier venture-backed companies emerging out of the US.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Alice was a Vice President with Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC advising wealthy Chinese individuals and families in the U.S. as well as providing institutional-level customized financial solutions to her clients in Asia. Before Credit Suisse, Ms. Wu was with Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management in San Francisco.

In addition to her career in financial services, Alice was an Associate Director at The Asia Foundation advising trustees and donors on their philanthropic activities in Asia. Before receiving her MBA degree, Alice had a career in public health working at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she conducted bio-statistical analyses and co-authored research articles in medical journals.

Michael Zaninovich

Managing Director

Michael has over 25 years of experience managing institutional and individual portfolios. His perspective and work experience is global, with a focus on risk-adjusted and tax-efficient returns. Together with Jeanette Garretty and Danny Rozansky, Michael advises Robertson Stephens' clients in the US and Europe on capital markets, multi-asset class portfolios and manager due diligence.

Prior to joining Robertson Stephens, Michael was a Senior Vice President and Senior Investment Strategist at Wells Fargo Private Bank where he managed some of the largest relationships in the Wells Fargo Wealth Management Group and was a regular speaker and panelist at Private Bank investment events. Prior to Wells Fargo, Michael was a partner in two long/short hedge funds and a consultant to a global macro hedge fund.

Michael holds a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University where he was a Columbia Corporate Fellow and holds a BA from Cornell University. Michael is fluent in Japanese and Italian. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.

Andy has over 30 years of experience on Wall Street and in the wealth management business. Before joining Robertson Stephens he was the manager of the Stephens Inc. Private Client Group in its New York office. Prior to Stephens Inc., Andy worked for CIBC Oppenheimer. He started and managed the New York office for the original Robertson Stephens Financial Services Division. Previously, he worked for Morgan Stanley and Drexel Burnham Lambert.

Senior Strategic Advisor

Ron Florance is a Senior Strategic Advisor and a member of the Board of Advisors. In this role, Ron advises on comprehensive strategic asset allocation, investment strategy and investment solutions. He is responsible for communicating the firm’s global investment strategy at conferences, academic lectures and continuing education programs.

Ron has over 30 years of experience in the investment management industry. His expertise includes global asset allocation, equity research, fixed income research and portfolio design and management. He recently retired as Deputy Chief Investment Officer at Wells Fargo Private Bank. His prior corporate experience included roles at The Vanguard Group, Wells Fargo Nikko Investment Advisors and The Private Bank at Bank of America.

He holds a BA in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Brown University and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
