Chief of Staff to the CEO

Firm Overview

Robertson Stephens is a privately held national wealth management firm with roots in one of the country’s most legendary tech-focused investment banks. In the 1990s, the original Robertson Stephens underwrote hundreds of groundbreaking IPOs, helping fuel the technology revolution. Today, we are proud to build on that forward-thinking legacy. With over $8.5 billion in client assets across 26 locations nationwide and an 8-year CAGR of 40%+, we are one of the fastest-growing wealth management firms in the country. Guided by our core values of stewardship, integrity, collaboration, curiosity, and innovation, we aim to be the best wealth management firm — elevating the client and advisor experiences through institutional-quality investment solutions, comprehensive wealth planning, and intelligent digital capabilities.

Job Description

We are seeking a Chief of Staff to the CEO — a highly visible, entrepreneurial role designed for a top performer who wants to drive meaningful impact at a fast-growing wealth management firm. Reporting directly to and working closely alongside the CEO with meaningful daily interaction, you will provide leverage by tackling high-priority, high-impact projects that shape the firm’s direction.

This role places you at the center of the firm’s most critical priorities. You’ll work directly with the CEO, executive team, and advisor leaders on initiatives that directly impact Robertson Stephens’ growth trajectory. Few roles provide this level of access, responsibility, and visibility so early in a career.

The Chief of Staff position is designed as a launchpad into a senior leadership role at Robertson Stephens. You will gain exposure to multiple aspects of the business, and for the right candidate, this role can evolve into a senior strategic or operating leadership position within Robertson Stephens.

Base salary will be in the $200k to $225k range with a discretionary performance-based bonus and potential equity-based compensation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serving as a thought partner to the CEO on strategic capital raising initiatives, including investor materials, analysis and execution support.
  • Driving cross-functional firmwide initiatives, ensuring alignment, accountability and timely execution.
  • Helping to devise and manage new organic growth strategies.
  • Expanding our service offering and enhancing client experience.
  • Developing and supporting new advisor acquisition strategies.
  • Attending Operating Committee meetings and ensuring follow-up on all decisions taken.
  • Interacting with Board members and other senior principals at Long Arc Capital and generating materials as required by the Board.

While this is a subset of the current priorities, they will change as the firm grows and evolves.

Personal Qualities

This role is for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment — where decisions are made quickly, ownership is encouraged, and impact is measured by results rather than process.

  • High degree of professionalism, judgment, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Comfortable interacting with senior executives, board members, investors, and other external partners.
  • Team-oriented with an ability to work virtually with a team located all over the country.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, to San Francisco or other locations of Robertson Stephens, possibly including team in India.
  • Self-starter, with the ability to offer perspective on new initiatives and multi-task.
  • Detail focused with excellent organization skills and the ability to deliver quality work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ideally 4 to 8 years of professional experience (consulting, banking, investing, or strategic roles).
  • Highly proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools to prepare models, reports, and term sheets.
  • Knowledge of the wealth and asset management industry, merger and acquisition experience, and investment banking or consulting training are beneficial
