Managing Director, Principal
Sean Powers is a Managing Director and Principal at Robertson Stephens in the Denver and Vail Valley area. He has over 20 years of experience investing in financial markets managing money for corporations, foundations, endowments, family offices, and high net worth individuals. Sean has expertise in asset allocation, risk management, and derivatives and has built his career on creating innovative investment solutions for clients. Prior to Robertson Stephens, he and his colleague Lauren, were at All Season Financial Advisors, taking high-quality financial planning and tax efficient portfolio management for clients to the next level.
Sean brings a unique background to wealth management having spent years as a portfolio manager. He has managed private funds for several firms across multiple asset classes and has considerable experience in the options market.
Before moving to Colorado in 2006, he helped raise $1 billion in a hedge fund for Chicago-based firm, Lotsoff Capital Management, (now part of Stifel) that invested in global bond and currency markets through options. He was then hired by Cain Brothers Asset Management (which was purchased by BPV Capital Management) to help run their private funds business managing money for non-profit healthcare companies. His specialties include asset allocation, hedging concentrated stock positions, strategic liquidation of low basis stock, tax efficient portfolio transitions, and evaluating alternative investment strategies.
Sean earned his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Behavior and Management from Brown University and his master’s degree in Financial Markets and Trading from the Stuart School of Business at Illinois Institute of Technology.
Sean lives in Denver with his wife, Tristan, and their five children. A lover of the outdoors, you can find him fly fishing in the summer, or on the slopes during the winter. He has spent years coaching his kids for their various soccer teams and is still an active soccer player himself. He has spent time and donated money to several different charities over the years including The Gathering Place, The Tennyson Center, and St. Jude’s Hospital.
